Jobping goes global!

via Jobping blog

I’ve just realized that I have forgotten to post about this important news concerning Jobping (public beta launched in April 2010) : you can now use their services from everywhere, not just Australia anymore!

News of a niche Job board for Microsoft Professionals spread quicker than we thought and we have received multiple requests from people in the U.S and Europe who want to advertise onJobping. Having initially intended to only advertise positions within Australia we’ve now enabledJobping to accept posts from anywhere in the world.

For both Advertisers and Jobseekers this will make no difference to the way you already use the site, although you will may notice a sprinkle of extra options here and there.

If you have any questions or requests then we’d love to hear from you.

Good job Mathieu and Laurent ;-)

Fear of conflict?

via Jeff Bussgang

Excellent post from Jeff concerning dysfunctioning teams, based on a book from P. Lencioni – Five disfucntions of a Team. Patrick Lencioni lists the five main issues that can araise within a team, and how to combat them:

  1. Inattention to Results
  2. Avoidance of Accountability
  3. Lack of Commitment
  4. Fear of Conflict
  5. Absence of Trust

Jeff is then emphasizing the impact of fearing confllicts within an organization.

[…] Again and again, I see management teams and boards of directors shy away from conflict. It is quite natural for humans to avoid conflict.  In fact, our deeply programmed “fight or flight” instincts are designed to protect ourselves and run away when we sense danger.  Interpersonal conflict is a danger we all prefer to avoid as it makes us uncomfortable. […]

Here are a few techniques I’ve found help address this issue, particularly in start-ups. [more information in the post]

  1. Building Trust
  2. Annual Reviews
  3. Systematic Post Mortems
  4. Go Direct

[…] Conflict can be stressful, draining and uncomfortable.  Yet, it is incredibly natural, healthy part of life, particularly in a start-up.  And creating a culture that can handle conflict effectively clearly has a positive impact on performance.

Whole post is definitely worth a read ;-)

Warm welcome to David!

After the start of Carlos on December 16, 2010, we are again very proud and happy to be able to announce that David Wilson, our new Senior Solution Architect, has started to work at Innoveo yesterday!

David has a Bachelor of Science from the Edinburgh University, and is bringing with him 25 years of IT experience in the fields of Software development, engineering and architecture, consulting, and project management. He knows also the Insurance industry quite well, as he was working as a consultant for Winterthur, Zurich, and ZurichRe in the past.

We are also very happy to welcome our first “English native” speaker, as David is Swiss and … Scottish!

Some figures about 2010

On this blog:

  • 1.3 million pageviews in 2010 (cumulated since March 2004: 6.7 million pageviews)
  • and 79 posts (cumulated since March 2004: 1’221 posts)

On SmugMug:

  • 800’000 unique views in 2010
  • and more than 1.5 million in the last 2 years

I feel very comfortable now with my technical current setup:

Saint Barth and its 101 yachts…

Very high season in St Barth now. Actually the period almost all St Barth lovers would not be on the island, as it’s time for “show off” and “celebrities”.

Concentration of big yachts is just crazy now there, about 100 yachts (and no small ones) are present near the Gustavia harbor. And grouped outside the harbor, as the swell is very strong :-)

Flickr users, you feel uncomfortable? …

…I understand ;-) Was the same for me since now already 2 years, when I decided to move from Flickr to SmugMug. The reasons for this change in December 2008 were listed in detail in this post, but as a summary, I recap my points from 2008 that are more and more valid to my understanding…

Why I left Flickr?

  • The huge functional differences between Flickr and SmugMug
  • The lack of innovation and service updates at Flickr. In the last months, nothing happened at Flickr. SmugMug is principally launching new functions and testing new ideas each month!
  • I was impacted by all the controversies and censorship stories (Thomas Hawk is relating some of them here and here) around Yahoo!/Flickr.

When you follow a bit the Flickr story, you have for sure heard that mainly the whole team and founders have left Yahoo now…

So now the "good news" for you if you’d like to leave Flickr is that the migration to SmugMug is quite easy (I’ve done it for 2 years). And refugees are definitely welcome in the SmugMug family ;-)

Have a look at the special SmugMug offer for you (20% discount)!

As a SmugMug user since now 2 years, I personally strongly recommend their service, really great!

(I’m not affiliated in any manner with SmugMug, excepted as a paying *happy* customer ;-)

This week-end…

We had a cool lunch at JYS (Chef: Jean-Yves Schillinger, 1* Michelin) in Colmar, which is really a very nice town during this Christmas time. I had specially a super entree, 3 eggs with a simple potatoes’ puree for strengthening the flavor of the truffle :-)

A stroll in the old city.

And this evening, a nice colored sunset!
